This film will show you, step-by-step and in detail, how to carry out a target child observation. By observing the techniques demonstrated, you will have the opportunity to quickly grasp the skills needed to carry out this kind of observation effectively in your everyday practice.. Initially shown as one continuous 10-minute piece in a classroom, you will see five children sitting around a table drawing. The objective is to examine social development. Two children, one socially outgoing, the other withdrawn are observed separately. Written observations are displayed on the screen after each minute. At the end of each ten minute observation there is an evaluation on screen that interprets the observation. The children's drawings are also shown and evaluated.. Watching the sequences repeatedly offers you an opportunity to practice and really get to grips with this technique. The sequences can also be used to concentrate on other objectives, language development or concentration for example. You may also wish to study the other children in the group and their drawings are included in the accompanying notes for this purpose.

What makes an exceptional teacher? We go back to school with the Primary, Secondary and Special Needs winners of the 2006 National Teaching Awards to find out. The winners were Ceri Evans, a secondary science teacher at Gable Hall School; Hilary Cook, the SENCO at Lauriston Primary School; and Julie Puxley, now Deputy Head at Elsenham CoE School, and formerly a teacher at R A Butler Infant School. They all have different styles and work in different settings, but many of the underlying issues are still the same. What clearly links them is a passion for learning, combined with a respect for children and a genuine enjoyment of their company. This programme celebrates teaching at its best.

This video chronicles the life of Wachtang "Botso" Korisheli who grew up during Josef Stalin's regime in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. After his father was declared an "Enemy of the State," Botso and his mother were allowed a twenty minute visit to say goodbye, his father imparted all the life lessons he could. Almost eighty years later, he still adheres to those teachings. Learn about his remarkable life: digging front line trenches for the Russian Army, surrendering to the Nazi's, how the Nazi's helped him escape to America, becoming a music teacher, setting up his own conservatory in Morro Bay, his impact on his former students, and returning the country of his birth.
